Essentially two thirds of Local 2195 members will qualify for one of the retirement- attrition packages currently being offered by Delphi to reduce the size of their workforce. That leaves a number of Alabama Site employees in the situation of making a decision to either staying here or flowing back to GM. GM has committed to the UAW to provide a flowback opportunity to everyone who wants to flow by September 2007.

GM’s Arlington Assembly Operation sits on 250 acres in Arlington, Texas. The facility employees about 3900 workers who build the new GMT 900 series Tahoe and Yukon for GM. Most jobs are assembly line, with volumes currently being strong due to the demand for the redesigned SUV. It is anticipated that Arlington will have a number of openings later in the year.

Arlington, Texas is a suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and has a population of about 350,000 people. It is approximately 12 miles east of Fort Worth and 20 miles west of Dallas. The city is home to the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball and the Dallas Cowboys will be relocated to Arlington in the new future.

The Shreveport Assembly Operation is home to GM’s Canyon and Colorado pickup and the Hummer 3. The plant is expected to have a number of openings going into the summer and fall. Most jobs are assembly, but there should be some skilled trades openings as well. The plant works a far amount of overtime for an assembly plant.

Shreveport is the second largest city in Louisiana with a population of about 200,000. It sits in the northwest corner of the state about 50 miles from Texas.

GM Bowling Green Assembly Bowling Green, Kentucky

Bowling Green Assembly is home to the Corvette and Cadillac XLR luxury models. The facility opened on 1981, following a move of production from St. Louis. The plant employees about 1200 people and is situated along side Interstate 65. The facility is about a million square feet under roof and occupies a large parcel of land. There may be some openings in Bowling Green, but it unlikely for a while. The plant seldom works overtime and most jobs are assembly.

Bowling Green is the fourth largest city in Kentucky with a population of about 50,000. It is home to the national Corvette Museum and Western Kentucky University.

Doraville Assembly is the home of GM’s Uplander and Terraza mini-vans. GM has announced their intention to close the Doraville Facility in the fall of 2008. However, there are several hundred Doraville employees signing up for the attrition and retirement packages and this should create 250 to 400 openings at the plant.

Doraville is a suburb of Atlanta and located near Stone Mountain. Doraville has a population of about 10,000 people and is located in the northwest area of Georgia.

SPO plants are service parts warehouses that store and ship replacement parts. These facilities are usually small and seldom have openings. At this time Memphis SPO doesn’t anticipate flowback opportunities within the near future.

GM Fairfax Assembly Kansas City, Kansas

In 2004 GM moved production of the Malibu from Lansing, Michigan to Fairfax, Kansas and launched the Epsilon platform for midsize cars. The plant currently employees 2,400 people and estimate to have around 400 opening as a result of the attrition packages. Due to the proximity of Oklahoma City, they expect to fill about 200 of those openings will be taken by displaced workers from Oklahoma City. There should still be about 200 openings at Fairfax beginning right away. At this time Fairfax doesn’t anticipate any skilled trades openings, just production.

Fairfax is a suburb of Kansas City, Kansas and sits in the northeast corner of Kansas and Missouri. A city of about 150,000 people, it is the third largest city in Kansas.
