Alabama & Mississippi Area Women’s Council Essay Contest

The UAW Region 8 Alabama & Mississippi Area Women’s Council is once again sponsoring their Labor Essay Contest. The contest is open to all high school seniors graduating from high schools in Alabama and Mississippi. The 2004 Scholarship Awards will be:

1st Place - $1000
2nd Place - $600
3rd Place - $400

All checks will be made payable to both student and the college or university the student will be attending.

This year’s essay topics are “Why we still need Unions” or “Pay Equity, Does it Exist?”
The contest is open to all students scheduled to graduate from an Alabama or Mississippi high school and planning to attend an accredited college or university as a full time student commencing with Fall term of 2005.

All essays must adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Paper – plain white 8.5X11
2. Typewritten – one side only- doubled space
3. Length – 750-1000 words
4. Deadline – March 15, 2005

Essay must be accompanied by a cover sheet containing the following information:
Your name, address, telephone number, age grade level and school, and the name of the college or university where you plan, or tentatively plan to attend.

A statement from your principal or guidance counselor confirming that you have submitted an application, taken entrance exams or sent transcripts must accompany your essay.
