The UAW-Delphi
Skill Center is proud to announce the addition of a new instructor. Lynda
Smith recently joined the staff to assist Skill Center participants academic
and computer training. Having taught in the Athens School System, Lynda
has over 25 years of teaching experience. She is a State Board Certified
Teacher with experience in computer skills.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of teaching adults,”
Lynda states. “I am adjusting my teaching style to be more suitable
for adults. I enjoy teaching and look forward to assisting the people
of the Alabama Site with meeting their educational goals.”
“The Center for Human Resources is really emphasizing the push for
academic training in the Skill Centers,” adds Skill Center Administrator
Syrvillia Gilchrist. “ More and more people are interested in returning
to school to further their education and the Skill Center is a great resource.
The instructors not only teach latest software applications, they can
also tutor students and provide assistance with research for papers and
other assignments. The Skill Center has computers with Internet access.
Employees and their spouses can take any number of self paced classes
that help them improve both their academic and computer skills.”
“The Internet is a valuable resource these days and everyone can
benefit from it,” adds Instructor Ola Steele. “We can help
participants with developing their online skills which allow them to take
full advantage of email, searching for information and e commerce. These
days you can pay your bills on line, shop and research any subject. The
Skill Center has classes that can help the novice get started, or give
experienced users more information.”
The Skill Center offers instruction on Microsoft Office programs such
as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Other classes include typing, foreign
languages, financial planning and GED preparation.
Currently, plans are under way to offer an introductory class on digital
photography just after the first of the year. The class will be offered
at times to accommodate all shifts. If you are purchasing your first digital
camera this Christmas or have one and would like to know more about it,
make plans to attend the seminar in January.
The Skill Center is open to all UAW represented employees and their spouses.
The new hours of operation are 7AM-5PM Monday through Friday. Call and
sign up today at 256-552-5440. The Skill Center is located next to the
PE Building behind Plant 21. Participants should park in the parking lot
adjacent to the Truck Gate then follow the sidewalk down to the Skill
Center.
