The 2006 Edition
of the UAW Local 2195 Picnic was held June 24, 2006 at Point Mallard Park
in Decatur. The afternoon of June 24 saw storm clouds cover the area with
rain and thunder. However, when the gates opened at 6:30 the skies were
filled with sunshine as the foul weather made its way down the river and
out of the area.
Those in attendance were greeted with a picture perfect summer evening
as mild temperatures ushered in the sunset.
While the earlier rains reduced the normal crowd a little, those in attendance
had a great time. Each of the pools at Point Mallard were filled with
children of all ages, while some preferred the tranquility of the lawn
area to enjoy a barbeque meal and the sounds of the evening’s entertainment.
This year the band “High Five” performed, featuring UAW Local
2195 members Woody and David Mixon. Their repertoire of classic rock and
roll brought back many pleasant memories of days past as the crowd sang
along and nodded in approval. Once the music ended, the Local 2195 Recreation
Committee took the stage to begin the door prize drawings.
“We want to thank the Recreation Committee for once again putting
together a great evening of fun for our membership,” states President
Terry Scruggs. “We also want to thank the many sponsors who donated
prizes for the picnic. Take a few minutes and look through the list of
winners and take note of those businesses that support
us and keep them in mind when making purchases of your own. These are
difficult times and we need to know who is with us. When things get hard
is when you really find out who your friends are and the list of businesses
that supported this picnic can give you an idea who really supports us.
Again, thanks to everyone who made this picnic a success.”
