The 18th Annual
Greater Tennessee Valley Antique Car and Harley Davidson Show was held
on the Alabama Site grounds on July 09, 2005. Over 840 vehicles were on
display as one of the largest crowds of spectators in the history of the
event showed up.
In addition to the literally hundreds of restored automobiles, trucks,
street rods and motorcycles on display, many other forms of entertainment
were there to be found. The largest number of vendors in the history of
the event was on hand, selling restoration parts and collectables. Virtually
any type of food imaginable was available, as the crowd enjoyed on a hot
summer day taking in the fun. Music was provided by Michael Dean as “Elvis.”
“We really want to thank everyone who participated, especially our
sponsors,” stated Doug Poole who has been part of organizing the
show for the past 18 years. “Delphi, UAW Local 2195, Family Security
Credit Union and our major sponsor Lynn Layton Chevrolet. Once again we
had a great number of vehicles and probably the largest crowd we have
ever had. There are a number of groups on site who assist with putting
the show together and we thank each and everyone one of them for their
assistance.”
The
grand prize of this year’s show was a 1930 Nash Four Door Sedan
that was fully restored. Five numbers were drawn from all the participants
and then those five drew numbers until there was a winner. The crowd began
to pack up around 4:00PM and headed down to the Rockin’ McDonalds
on the Beltline in Decatur for a “Cruise In” after the show
closed. The Greater Tennessee Valley Antique Car and Harley Davidson Show
is a great public relations tool for the Alabama Site, drawing spectators
and participants from all over the South. Over the past 18 years it has
grown into the largest car show in our area and plans are already underway
for the 2006 version next July.
